Dr. Evelyn Blose Holman, Superintendent of Bay Shore Schools, Long Island, for the past 15 years, previously served as superintendent of Maryland’s Wicomico County Schools.  Holding a BS degree from Pennsylvania’s Indiana State College, a M.Ed. and Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, Dr. Holman taught sixth grade through university level, authored/edited various publications, and served as keynote speaker at numerous local, state and national conferences.  Chosen Maryland Superintendent of the Year and elected President of the Maryland Superintendents’ Association, she was selected to represent Maryland at the National Gallery of the Arts’ 50th Birthday Celebration.

Her many New York awards include:  New York Woman of the Year from the New York Senate, the New York State United Teachers Friend of Education Award, the Council of Administrators and Supervisors Service Award, the National School Boards’ Magna Award (4 times), and chosen as a Long Island Woman of Distinction.  Dr. Holman was three times named one of the Top One Hundred Educational Executives in North America.  Dr. Holman was elected to the Middle States Regional Council of the College Board and received the New York State Alliance of the Arts “School Superintendent Recognition for Leadership in Arts Education.”  She is President of SCOPE Educational Services and President of the Century Club, a national superintendent’s leadership group limited to two superintendents from each state.  Dr. Holman also teaches classes in Community Engagement. 

Dr. Holman served on several national advisory boards/committees for:  American Association of School Administrators, American Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and National Middle School Association.  In Maryland, she was appointed to the Governor’s Commission for Disruptive Youth and as Chairperson of the Maryland Early Learning Years Commission.  In New York, she currently serves on several local advisory boards as well as Suffolk County’s Crime Prevention Task Force, Suffolk County Executive’s Task Force for Bay Shore, Congressman Israel’s Bioterrorism Committee, and Suffolk County’s Housing Commission, New York State Council of School Superintendent Ethics Committee, and the Town of Islip’s Anti-Bias Task Force. 

She recently received the Adults and Children with Learning Disabilities and Developmental Disabilities Educator of Excellence Award and the Maritime Museum’s Outstanding Educator Award.

Dr. Holman, a Fulbright China scholar, collects Chinese robes and textiles.
