Outstanding Friend of Education
The Horace Mann League presented two awards at the annual
meeting held in Orlando, in conjunction with AASA.

Al Dietzel, Vice President, The Limited, Inc.
The Outstanding Friend of Education award was presented to The Limited, Inc. of Columbus, Ohio. The Limiteds leadership was instrument in creating a unique partnership with the Columbus Public Schools in reading readiness with primary grade children. With the help of employees of The Limited, the one-on-one reading readiness program has expanded to Kettering, OH, and New York City.
Mr. Al Dietzel, Vice President of The Limited accepted the award. Mr. Dietzel indicated that the program has strengthened ties with the Columbus Public Schools and increased employee pride in the company and in their community.
Dr. Rosa Smith, Superintendent of the Columbus Public Schools, also spoke on behalf of The Limiteds impact on reading readiness in the Columbus Public Schools.

Susan Zelman, State Supt. of Public Instruction for Ohio
Ms. Susan Zelman, State Superintendent of Public Instruction for Ohio presented Al Dietzel with a proclamation from Governor Taft. The Proclamation stressed the success of the schoolbusiness partnership in Columbus and Kettering, Ohio.
