Responsibilities include: providing general leadership for the graduate and research programs in the College of Education; supervising the Director of Distance Learning and Director of Grant Development; coordinating the admission of graduate students and the hiring of research assistants; stimulating research and scholarship among faculty by coordinating seminars on developing grant proposals and securing external funding; and supervising the collection of course evaluation data.

Richardson Foundation grant; conceptualizing and developing Texas' first fully-approved Educational Leadership doctoral program to be offered via technology-enhanced distance delivery (program secured unanimous approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in July, 1999); serving as Secretary of the Texas Tech University Faculty Senate in 2000-2001; coordinating Texas Tech University's role in partnering with the Texas Association of School Administrators and the Texas Business and Education Coalition in 2000 procurement of a three-year, $12.6 million grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for the purpose of improving technology leadership; teaching public education law in the School of Law in addition to ongoing instructional role in the College of Education; pursuing an active and well-rounded research agenda; and providing leadership and service in various college and university activities as well as in a broad range of other national, regional and local professional organizations.
