Outstanding Educator Award
The Horace Mann Leagues Outstanding Educator Award was
presented to Paul Houston, Executive Director of the American
Association of School Administrators.

Dr. Colleen Wilcox, HML board member, introduced Paul Houston and highlighted his achievements as an educational scholar, orator, and leader on behalf of public education.
During the last seven years, Paul has been an outspoken advocate for strong public schools as the cornerstone of a community and of the nation. Paul has also been an advocate of the critical need for strong school leadership and effective preparation programs as one of the critical needs for effective school reform.
Prior to assuming the role of Executive Director of AASA, Paul was the Superintendent of Schools in the Riverside USD in California. Other superintendent positions include Princeton, NJ and Tucson, AZ.
Degrees are from Ohio State University, University of North Carolina, and Harvard University.
Pauls books include Exploding the Myths with Joe Schneider in 1993 and Articles of Faith and Hope for Public Education in 1997.
In 1995, Paul co-authored the Horace Mann League publication, The Religious Right: Beliefs, Goals and Strategies with Jane Hammond and Jack McKay.
Currently, Pauls articles on public education issues are regularly published in The School Administrator.
