Directions for MS Word Assignment.
1. Finding article: Using your browser (Explorer, Netscape, etc.) open "Google" and type in "high stakes testing berliner." Select the journal article by Amrein and Berliner, High-Stakes Testing, Uncertainty, and Student Learning (EPAA).
2. Copy and Paste: Open the journal article and copy "only" the abstract.
3. Open your MS Word software application. (For additional information about using MS Word, click here.)
4. Paste the abstract of the journal article into your MS Word page. All documents must comply with APA formatting. Click here for APA formatting information.
5. Page break: In MS Word, under "insert," create a page break between the title and authors and the abstract information.
6. In the abstract, create and type a title for each paragraph. See APA for title page formatting.
7. Formatting for the Table of Contents: With your cursor, highlight the title of the first paragraph, then in your menu bar, you should see "normal" in a box. Click on the triangle and select "Heading 1." (You are going through the process of automatically making the Table of Contents.) Repeat the highlighting, and "Heading 1" for each of the paragraph titles.
8. Creating the Table of Contents: Find the page break line after your first (title page) page and insert a second page break. Place you cursor in the space between the two page breaks (page two). Then, under "insert" in the menu bar, select "references" and then "index and tables." In "index and tables" select "Table of Contents." Click on "Okay." If you cursor was located on the second page, you will have your Table of Contents" located on the second page.
9. Page Numbers: Add page numbers, but not for the title page.
10. Turning in the assignment: Save your document and then email your document (as an attachment) to me at mckay423@cablespeed.com

Feedback: You will receive back, via email, a few comments. To see
the comments. Click on the attachment and detach to your desktop.
12 Open MS Word, then open your detached document.
13. Reviewing: In MS Word, menu bar, in "View", open "toolbar" then make sure "Reviewing" is
checked. Also, click on make sure "Comments" is also checked. Then you should be
able to see the enclosed comments in your paper.
