Data Base information for assignment on data bases.

1. Create a data base file (MS Works has a good data base application as does MS Access).

2. Create the following fields: title, first, last, address, city, state, zip, child's name, and test score.

3. Create a file for each of the following students
3a. Sort by last name.

Save this data file as "parents"

4. Open the word processing program.

Use the following example of a letter to mail to the parents:

March 15, 2002

Merge the following (When you merge data, you will be asked to identify the data base where the information is stored. In this example, the DB is "parents".

Merge the following data into your word processing document.

title, first, last
address
city, state, zip

Dear (Insert title and last name)

It is my pleasure to inform yout that (insert name of student) has passed the entrance examination to enter Oxford University next fall. (insert name of student) had a exam score of (insert score here). As you know tuition is $35,000 per year, plus travel to England along with lodging and meals, estimated to be around $50,000 additional. We here at Rock Bottom High School are proud of (insert student's name)'s success.

5. When you have completed the merging, tested the merged data with the word processing program, send me your DB and WP files. Please send me your questions.
